Day Length
by yigitguven
Day Length changes how long each Minecraft day lasts, and can tie the day-night cycle to the real-world clock.
What it does
Day Length gives the player control over how fast Minecraft's time moves. A custom day duration can be set, for example 40 minutes for a day or 48 hours for a double-length day, and the cycle can also follow a specific UTC offset of the system clock. The time advances in small steps, so the sun and moon move smoothly instead of jumping. Sleeping still skips the night as in vanilla, and the timing stays synced with real-time.
Settings are reachable in-game through the Mods menu, where the day length is selected directly. The mod runs on the client and the server, so both the server and every player need it. It requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with builds covering 1.14.4 – 1.21.6 across 14 release versions. Cloth Config API and Mod Menu are optional. The code is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only.
Key features
Custom day duration
The length of a full day-night cycle can be set to a value of the player's choice instead of the vanilla length.
Real-time synchronization
Game time can be tied to the system clock with a chosen UTC offset, for a strictly realistic 24-hour cycle.
Smooth sun and moon movement
Time progresses in small ticks, so the sun and moon glide across the sky without visible jitter.
In-game configuration
Day length options are opened from the Mods menu, without editing files by hand.
Vanilla sleep support
Players still sleep through the night as usual, and the skip stays in step with the synced clock.

Use cases
Realistic cycles
A server can run a day that matches the real 24-hour clock, so night falls at the same local hour every day.
Unusual playstyles
Very long or very short days suit slow-paced survival or challenge worlds built around a different rhythm.
Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want to change how fast the day-night cycle runs, either to match real time or to set a custom length.
How it compares
Extra Long Days is a server-required mod under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, not open source in the same sense, and it covers 1.20 – 1.21.11 with Quilt as well. Extended Time is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and built for Forge and NeoForge across 1.19.2 – 1.21.8. Day Length, by contrast, needs both the client and the server.
