CrosshairDist

by kvapilvaclav0

Players aiming at blocks or mobs can read the exact distance to the target under the crosshair with CrosshairDist, a Fabric client mod.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT License1.21.8 – 1.21.11

What it does

CrosshairDist shows a live readout of the distance to whatever the crosshair is pointing at, in meters with two decimal places. Blocks are shown in green text with the block name, and entities in orange text with the entity name. When nothing is in reach, no readout appears, so empty space stays clear. The distance is the straight-line gap from the player's eyes to the exact point the ray hits, and the readout updates smoothly as the player moves.

The readout is drawn through Fabric's HUD rendering callback, so it respects the F1 key that hides the interface and stays hidden in pause menus and inventory screens. The display can be toggled with the J key. The mod needs Fabric API and runs on the client alone, so only the player who installs it sees the readout, and servers do not need it.

CrosshairDist is published for Fabric only, for game versions 1.21.8 – 1.21.11, with 1.0.0 for 1.21.11 as the latest file. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Live distance readout

A decimal distance to the aimed block or entity appears under the crosshair while the player moves.

  2. Color by target type

Blocks show green text and entities show orange text, so the kind of target is clear at a glance.

  3. Hit-point measurement

The distance runs from the eyes to the exact ray-hit point, not to the center of the block or mob.

  4. Hide and toggle controls

The readout is hidden by F1 and in menus, and the J key switches the display on or off.

Crosshair Customizer is client-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for 1.21 – 1.21.8, so it changes how the crosshair looks rather than measuring anything. Crosshair Player Indicator is client-side only, released under the MIT License and published for 1.21.11, and it marks players rather than giving a distance readout. Custom Crosshair is client-side only, released as All rights reserved and published for 1.21.4, and it customizes the crosshair shape.

Questions

Does CrosshairDist need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency and must be installed next to CrosshairDist on Fabric.

Does a server need CrosshairDist installed?

No. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy.

Can the readout be hidden when it is not needed?

Yes. The J key toggles the display, and the readout is also hidden by F1 and in pause menus and inventory screens.

Which game versions does CrosshairDist support?

Files cover 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10 and 1.21.11, so the mod is published for 1.21.8 – 1.21.11 on Fabric.

What the author says

CrosshairDist answers a question the vanilla game never quite does: how far away is the thing I'm pointing at? While you aim at a block or entity within reach, a small line under your crosshair shows the kind ("Block" or "Entity") plus the exact distance from your eyes, to two decimal places. The distance is the…
