Codecium

by ErrorCraft

Codecium is a Fabric library that rewrites the error messages produced when a Codec fails to parse data.

FabricClient or server, optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.4 – 26.3

What it does

Codecium replaces the default Codec error output with clearer messages, so a failed parse points to the field and value that caused it. The author built it because the stock messages are often hard to act on when a datapack or mod reads its own data. Codec is a common way for Minecraft mods to define periodic table elements and other structured data, and that is where these messages usually appear. Files are published for Fabric for 1.21.4 – 26.3, with 1.2.2+26.3 as the latest build for 26.3, and the mod is open source under the MIT License. It can run on a client alone, a server alone or both, and neither side needs it.

Key features

  1. Clearer Codec errors

Parse failures are reported with more useful messages than the default Codec output provides.

  2. Field-level detail

Messages aim to show which part of the data failed, so the source of a problem is easier to find.

  3. Library for other mods

Other mods that use Codec benefit from the rewritten messages without changing their own data definitions.

Questions

Does Codecium need to be installed on the server?

No. It works on either side, and neither the client nor the server needs it, so it can run on one side alone or on both.

What the author says

Codecium is a Fabric mod that vastly improves Codec error messages. This mod was made because most of the current error messages are not useful at all. The name is a play on the term Codec and the common use of periodic table elements for Minecraft mods.
