Codec2Schema
by Tr100000
Codec2Schema is a Fabric tool that turns Mojang codecs into JSON schema files, so editors can autocomplete data-driven JSON files written for modded content.
What it does
Codecs are the way Minecraft serializes data stored as JSON. Codec2Schema reads the codecs that the game and installed mods register, then writes a JSON schema describing the structure each one expects. The installed mod exports these schemas together with data resource pack files in the codec2schema folder. An IDE that supports JSON schemas can use them to suggest fields and values while creating or editing those files. Generated schemas also list registry entries such as items and blocks, including content added by other mods.
The tool works through mixins and unchecked type casts, so it can transform most codecs without changes to them. It is a dedicated tool for schema export and carries no gameplay content. Many edge cases cannot be accounted for, and the author describes the output as good enough rather than perfect, so checking generated schemas against the warnings they produce is part of the workflow. Developers can also use the API to export their own codecs. Codec2Schema is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric only, with 6 release versions across 1.21.11 – 26.3.
Key features
JSON schema export
Codecs from the game and installed mods are written out as JSON schema files in the codec2schema folder.
Resource pack data export
Data resource pack files are exported alongside the schemas, so the output matches what the game reads.
Registry autocomplete
Generated schemas list registry entries, including items and blocks from modded content, for autocomplete in editors.
Custom codec export API
Developers can use the API to export their own codecs as schemas in the same way.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
This mod also publishes snapshot builds. Snapshots are not shown in the matrix.

What the author says
Through the power of mixins, sheer will, and unchecked type casts, this mod transforms codecs into (mostly) usable JSON schemas. Codecs are Mojang's way of easily serializing data to and from JSON. They define the structure of an object, meaning JSON schemas can be generated from them.
