Classic Mechanics
by Wilozyx
Classic Mechanics brings back older Minecraft behaviors through a datapack of toggleable modules, each one a single tweak or mechanic from earlier versions.
What it does
The datapack collects features and mechanics from earlier Minecraft builds, including beta, alpha, infdev, indev, classic and early release versions, and reinserts them into modern Minecraft. Each module is one tweak that can be turned on or off, and modules stay disabled until a player or server owner enables them. Enabling is done with a command or through the options message, which lists the modules and shows which are active. Presets allow several modules to be enabled at once.
The datapack is a server-side install: the server requires it, while a client may add it for the in-game options message. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with the current build covering 1.15 – 1.21.5. The author describes the work as inspired by the Nostalgic Tweaks, Old Days and Exalm mods. The code is released under CC0 1.0 Universal and is open source, so it can be edited, copied or repacked into other packs. Snapshot builds are published as well.
Key features
Toggleable modules
Each module changes one behavior, and the module can be switched on or off without affecting the others.
Disabled by default
Modules stay off until enabled, which keeps a world close to vanilla behavior until a tweak is chosen.
Presets
A preset enables several modules together, so a group of older behaviors can be applied in one step.
Options message
An in-game message lists every module with its state, and buttons can be clicked to change them.

Players who want the feel of an early Minecraft release can enable the matching modules and keep the modern game underneath.
Custom modpacks
Modpack makers can take the datapack and build their own selection of modules into a pack.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want to offer older mechanics on a modern server, and players who prefer early Minecraft behavior in a survival world.
