Capture Nets
by kestalkayden
Capture Nets lets players catch a passive or neutral mob in a reusable net and release it elsewhere, keeping its full saved data.
What it does
A net captures one animal, villager, golem, allay, axolotl or other passive and neutral living entity, including modded creatures. Right-clicking an animal with an empty net stores it inside, and right-clicking a block with a filled net releases the mob on the clicked face. A net holds one mob at a time and is reusable, losing durability with each use until it is spent.
The capture keeps the entity's complete NBT data, so a named animal keeps its name, a colored sheep keeps its color, and a tamed wolf still belongs to its owner. A baby chicken comes out a baby. The net's tooltip lists what is inside. Hostile mobs and bosses such as the Ender Dragon, Wither and Warden are excluded.
Capture Nets requires Fabric API on Fabric. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge across 10 release versions, 1.21.1 – 26.3, under the MIT License. The mod is open source, and the source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Reusable nets
Nets take durability loss with each capture or release, so one net can move several animals over time.
Full data preservation
Capture saves the entity's complete NBT, covering names, colors, ages and tame state.
Tooltip contents
The net's tooltip shows exactly what is inside, such as a colored sheep or a baby axolotl.
Item tag for other mods
The item tag capturenet:nets lists every capture net shipped by the mod, so other mods can accept any net without checking item IDs.
