Blood Mending
by wdfeer
Blood Mending is a Fabric magic mod that lets a Mending enchantment spend the player's health to repair tools, and it is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only.
What it does
Enchantment repairs tool cost health. Instead of drawing on experience, the Blood Mending enchantment restores durability to the tool it is on and charges the wearer in health. Three levels exist, each restoring more durability: level 1 gives 20 durability, level 2 gives 40 and level 3 gives 80. A player needs at least 50% of maximum health for the repair to happen, and the health cost is charged only while health stays above 2.
The effect scales with the server difficulty setting, so damage taken for the repair grows on harder worlds and shrinks on Peaceful. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Fabric API and Fabric Language Kotlin are required, and files are published for Fabric only, in two release versions: 1.20.1 and 1.21. The latest file, 0.1.10+1.21 for 1.21, was posted on 2025-02-10, after the first release on 2024-07-16.
Key features
Health-powered repairs
The enchantment repairs tools by drawing health from the player wearing them instead of experience.
Three enchantment levels
Blood Mending comes in three levels, restoring 20, 40 or 80 durability per repair.
Health threshold
A repair only happens when the player is at or above 50% of maximum health, and the cost cannot drop health below 2.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want a mending alternative that trades health rather than experience, and server owners who run Fabric worlds on 1.20.1 or 1.21 and want the mod to match their difficulty settings.
How it compares
Fast Mending is server-side only, licensed under the MIT License and published for 1.21.11, so players join without installing it. Uncapped Anvil is also Fabric-only and runs on client and server, under the MIT License, covering 1.20 – 1.21.11, and it changes the anvil rather than the enchantment. Unmending is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, runs on client and server for 1.20.1 – 1.21.7, and works on the opposite side of the tradeoff: it removes durability from enchanted items instead of spending health.
