Better Camera
by narezany
Better Camera replaces Minecraft's camera controls with a Roblox-style system, adding an orbit camera, scroll zoom and a shift lock, on Fabric and NeoForge.
What it does
The client-side camera cycles through two views instead of the usual three: first-person and third-person orbit. In third-person the camera pans freely around the character without turning the player model, and the model turns to face its walking direction only while the player moves. Scrolling zooms between close and a distance of up to 15 blocks, and the transition uses smooth distance interpolation.
When the camera gets close to the head, body, armor or cape, those parts fade to transparent so the view stays clean. A shift lock option places the camera over the shoulder and locks the body's yaw for strafing and combat, with a circular cursor. Before joining a multiplayer server the mod shows a warning screen, and the shift lock can be disabled there with Ctrl.
The mod requires Fabric API. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy. It is published for Fabric and NeoForge across 21 release versions, 1.20.1 – 26.1.2, and the code is released under CC0 1.0 Universal and is open source.

How it compares
Free Camera is open source under the MIT License and runs client-side only on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 26.2, so it covers free movement rather than an orbit view. Third Person Death is client-side only and open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.20.1 – 1.21.11. HoldCam is open source under the MIT License for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21.10 – 26.1.2.
