Auto Third Person
by quat
With Auto Third Person installed, the camera switches to a third-person view on its own when the player flies an elytra, rides a vehicle, or swims underwater.
What it does
The mod switches the camera to third person when the player starts flying with an elytra, rides an animal, boat or minecart, or swims underwater. When the flight or ride ends, the camera returns to the view it had before. Most behavior is set in a config file, and Fabric API is required on Fabric, Quilt and NeoForge builds.
Beyond the automatic switch, the mod includes a few camera options: one disables the flipped first-person camera, another corrects the rotated first-person hand seen in F5 on 1.7.10 and earlier, and a backport lets 1.4.7 players press Shift to leave vehicles. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.
Key features
Automatic vehicle view
The camera changes to third person while the player rides an animal, boat or minecart.
Elytra and swimming views
Flying with an elytra or swimming underwater also triggers the third-person camera.
Restored camera view
When the player stops flying or leaves the vehicle, the previous camera view comes back.
Temporary disable key
A toggle key in the options screen under Miscellaneous turns the mod off for a while; it is unbound by default.
Extra camera options
Settings disable the flipped first-person camera and fix the rotated first-person hand on 1.7.10 and earlier.

Use cases
Vehicle play
Players who ride horses, boats or minecarts often can keep a third-person view without changing the camera by hand each time.
Elytra flight
Players who fly with elytra can see their character and surroundings from behind during long flights.
Who it’s for: Players who want the camera to change view automatically during vehicle rides, elytra flight or underwater swimming, and who are willing to edit a config file for finer control.
