Zombie Apocalypse Addon
by Riqqqque
Players who want daytime to stay dangerous can run Zombie Apocalypse Addon on a Forge or NeoForge server, where custom zombie waves, hordes and blood moons are configured.
What it does
The server must run the addon, but players may join without it, so only the server side is required. Singleplayer also works with the addon installed, since singleplayer starts a local server. Builds exist for Forge and NeoForge across the 1.18.2, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 game versions, with 1.9.0 for 1.20.1 and 2.6.0 for 1.21.1 as the latest files. The code is not open source, and the addon is released under All rights reserved.
Day-based difficulty, optional siege behavior and kill milestones shape how the zombie threat grows over a run. A dashboard opened with /za shows the current day, waves, light protection, events, scaling and world-pressure options. Presets such as Casual and Standard set a balance in one step, and Standard suits most survival servers. Safe defaults keep the riskiest actions switched off until an operator enables them.
Settings are read and changed through /za, with help topics and tab suggestions for states, values and blocks. Changes require permission level 2, while read-only dashboards and status pages are open to everyone. Mushroom-field safe zones and fixed-time dimensions are handled separately, so the Nether and End are not given a permanent night boost.
Key features
Custom zombie waves
Waves spawn a set number of zombies at a chance per interval, with a per-player cap on nearby pressure.
Blood moons and events
Blood moon nights and natural events add timed pressure on top of the normal day-night cycle.
Light-based spawn control
Player-built torches and lanterns block custom waves by default, and a command can turn that check off.
Day-based scaling
Difficulty rises with the in-game day, and a Casual preset adds a grace period through day ten.
Kill milestones
Kill counts trigger progression steps that can be read on the status pages.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
How it compares
Baby Horde Moon 2 is NeoForge only, for 1.21.1, and needs both the server and client installed, with All rights reserved. The Apocalyptic Zombies is NeoForge only for 1.21.1 with the same environment and license. ZombiesEverywhere supports Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 26.1.2 and is not open source. Zombie Apocalypse Addon is server required with client optional, so players need nothing installed, while the alternatives listed here all require a client install as well.
