AnvilFix

by googler_ooeric

AnvilFix rewrites how anvils price enchanting, repairing and renaming, so repairs stop depending on accumulated experience.

FabricServer-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.19 – 1.20.1

What it does

AnvilFix removes the Too Expensive limit and the XP cost that builds up each time an item is worked on at an anvil. Costs are instead set by the enchantment and the material used. Applying an enchantment costs its base value multiplied by its level, so a low-level enchantment costs a few XP while the highest levels cost noticeably more. Repairing uses a linear cost of 2 XP per unit of material, and renaming is a flat 2 XP.

The mod is aimed at survival play, where the author found anvil enchanting, repairing and renaming the most frustrating balance problems. Equipment can be repaired as often as a player wants without the item eventually becoming unusable. The mod runs on the server, so players join without installing anything. It requires Fabric API, and files are published for Fabric only, for 1.19 – 1.20.1 (seven release versions). The code is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code is public.

Key features

  1. No Too Expensive limit

Items can be enchanted or repaired repeatedly without the anvil refusing the job as too expensive.

  2. Enchantment cost by level

Each enchantment costs its base value times its level, so higher levels cost more in a predictable way.

  3. Linear repair cost

Repairs cost 2 XP for each unit of material used, independent of previous work on the item.

  4. Flat renaming cost

Renaming an item at an anvil costs a fixed 2 XP.

What the author says

I've been increasingly frustrated with the balance of Survival mode, especially when it comes to anvil enchanting/repairing/renaming. With the recent controversy around the villager rebalance, I thought I'd take the opportunity to try my hand at addressing the issues surrounding anvil mechanics. This is my first…
