Improved Anvils
With Improved Anvils, the TOO EXPENSIVE cap on anvil repairs and enchantment combining is rebalanced on the server, so players can keep working on heavily enchanted gear.
What it does
Vanilla anvils stop working once the accumulated cost passes 40 levels, and the game shows TOO EXPENSIVE in place of a result. Improved Anvils changes how that cost is calculated, so each anvil use adds to the cost in a way that no longer reaches the cap as quickly. Renaming an item also keeps the elevated cost instead of resetting it.
Repairing netherite tools with netherite is still costly, and Mending is no longer pushed as the only practical answer to the limit. The author describes the mod as an attempt to fix a few known anvil issues, and it draws on the approach of the AnvilFix mod. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with a public source code repository and issue tracker. Fabric is the only loader with files, for 1.20 – 1.21.11 across 13 release versions.
Key features
Rebalanced cost scaling
Anvil costs are recalculated so that combining low-level enchantments stays practical on half-enchanted gear.
Cost kept through renaming
Renaming an item no longer clears the accumulated anvil cost, so work can continue where it stopped.
Netherite repair costs
Repairing netherite tools with netherite follows a revised cost rule instead of the vanilla penalty.
Server-side behavior
The rebalanced costs apply on the server, and clients see the new result through the same anvil screen.

How it compares
No Anvil Limit is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for 1.21.8 – 26.3. Anvil Too Expensive Removed is also server required with client optional, under the MIT License, but it has files for 1.21.11 only and is not open source. NotThatExpensive runs on both the client and the server, is not open source, and has a single Fabric file for 1.21. Enchant+ is released under the Apache License 2.0 and is not open source, with a server required file for 1.21.10. Anvil Too Expensive Fix is open source under the MIT License, server required with client optional, and covers 1.21 – 26.3.
