Zombies Apocalyptic AI
by oggvik
Zombies Apocalyptic AI changes how zombies choose their targets, so a horde pursues players, villagers and iron golems through walls.
What it does
Zombies ignore line-of-sight and track victims through walls, and they no longer fix on a single target. The mod makes them periodically re-evaluate their surroundings and switch to a more attractive target, with selection weighted by distance and health rather than strictly by the closest entity. Players, villagers and iron golems are all picked under the same rules.
Most settings can be changed at runtime with commands, and the values are saved per world. Adjusting these commands requires level 2 permissions, so server operators control them. Only the server has to run the mod; players may leave it out. It is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and is open source, with its source code and issue tracker public.
The mod is built for Forge 1.16.5 and was tested on Forge 36.2.42. It was first published on 2026-02-15. It is listed as a superset of Zombies Ignore LOS, and it is incompatible with Configurable Zombie AI and Zombies Ignore LOS, so only one of them can be installed alongside it. The mod has been archived since 2026-02-15 and no longer receives updates; its Kotlin rewrite, Configurable Zombie AI, is the recommended replacement.
Key features
Line-of-sight ignoring
Zombies pursue targets behind walls and other obstacles instead of losing them when the line of sight breaks.
Dynamic target switching
Zombies re-check their surroundings at intervals and move to a more attractive target as conditions change.
Weighted random selection
Target choice weighs distance and health, so zombies do not always pick the nearest entity.
Unified targeting
Players, villagers and iron golems are all valid targets under the same rules.
Runtime configuration
Most settings change through commands during play and are stored for each world.
