Yet Another Hammer Mod (YAHM)
by XDuskAshes
Yet Another Hammer Mod (YAHM) adds hammers made from wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite that replace pickaxes in mining.
What it does
Hammers are crafted from two sticks plus the material of the tier, so a wooden hammer uses two planks, a stone hammer two cobblestone, an iron hammer two iron ingots, a gold hammer two gold ingots, a diamond hammer two diamonds and a netherite hammer two netherite ingots. Each hammer breaks blocks at the same tier as the pickaxe of its material, which means a wooden hammer cannot break iron ore while a stone hammer can, and an iron hammer cannot break obsidian while a diamond hammer can.
The hammers are meant to work in place of pickaxes, and the author notes that this swap is the main intent of the project. Settings are stored in a TOML file, with several true or false switches to toggle behaviour. The project is marked as work in progress, and the author describes it as a first mod built by hand, after one earlier mod made with MCreator. Recipes that use pickaxes are not changed, so those still require a pickaxe.
The mod is open source under the MIT License and runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Files are published for Fabric only, for Minecraft 1.20.1, with 1.1.0 as the latest file.
Key features
Six hammer tiers
Wooden, stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite hammers, each crafted from two sticks and its tier material.
Tier-matched mining
Each hammer breaks the same blocks as the pickaxe of its tier, so tool level still limits what can be mined.
Pickaxe replacement
The hammers stand in for pickaxes when mining, while recipes that call for a pickaxe stay unchanged.
TOML configuration
Several true or false options are stored in a TOML file for toggling the mod's behaviour.

How it compares
Fabric Hammers is open source under the MIT License, runs on client and server and covers 1.20 – 1.20.4, so it overlaps this mod's version range only partly. RAID Hammer's is not open source, is published for Fabric and Forge for 1.20.1 and is licensed as All rights reserved. hammerme is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and is client-side only, so a server does not need it.

What the author says
Note: This mod is a WIP (Work In Progress). Nothing here is fully finished. I am entirely new to developing Minecraft mods the manual way. I have only ever made one other mod, Betterite, with MCreator. A Minecraft mod adding a few simple hammers. Hammers are crafted with two sticks and two of whatever material is…
