Worldborder Core
by Neuromuser
Worldborder Core is a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 that turns the world border into a minigame: each border expansion is earned by handing over items.
What it does
Expanding the border requires a set number of items, which must be delivered to the server within six hours of real time. Once the required amount is supplied, the core explodes and pushes the barrier outward by 10 blocks. After each explosion the core recalculates the item probabilities and picks the next item type, so the target changes over the course of a run. A rerolled item type can be triggered with a diamond block, and a border increase has a 10% chance of dropping 2 to 5 diamonds.
The mod is server-side and needs Fabric API. Cloth Config API and Mod Menu are optional; Mod Menu exposes the configuration screen. Players join without installing it, since only the server runs the core, though the author notes that without the client side the experience is weaker. Files are published for Fabric only, with builds for 1.19.2, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source.
Key features
Item-based border growth
The border grows only after the server receives the item quantity the core currently asks for.
Shifting item target
Each expansion reselects the next item type by recalculating probabilities, so the goal keeps changing.
Diamond reroll
A diamond block can be used to reroll the required item type before it is delivered.
Random diamond rewards
Border increases occasionally drop 2 to 5 diamonds, with a 10% chance on each expansion.

Use cases
Minigame servers
Server owners can run a border-expansion challenge where players cooperate to gather the item the core asks for.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want a cooperative minigame around the world border, and players who join those servers.
How it compares
No Border is a Fabric, Forge and NeoForge mod for 1.20.1 – 26.2 that runs on client and server under the BSD 2-Clause License, and it is not open source. Border Remover is a Fabric mod for 1.20.1 under the MIT License that also needs both sides and is not open source. Advancement Border takes the opposite approach to growth: it is a Fabric mod for 1.21 – 1.21.4 under the MIT License, open source, and it runs on the server with the client optional.
