WALink

by davidsaltacc

WALink lets players on a Fabric server exchange in-game chat with a WhatsApp group chat, relaying messages in both directions.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.10 – 26.1.2

What it does

The mod runs a bridge between a Minecraft server's text chat and a WhatsApp group. Messages typed in game reach the group, and messages from the group appear in the server chat. It works through an unofficial client library that connects to WhatsApp Web, which the author describes as an experimental proof-of-concept rather than a finished service. Most connection drops recover on their own after a short time, and a restart of WALink is the usual fix when they do not.

WALink is server-side only, so players join without installing anything and only the server runs it. Fabric API is required. The code is open source under the MIT License, and files cover Minecraft 1.21.10 – 26.1.2 across five release versions. The latest Fabric file is 0.1.1 for 26.1.2, published on 2026-05-22 on the alpha channel. Development started on 2026-03-09.

Key features

  1. Two-way relay

Chat from the server reaches the WhatsApp group, and group messages are shown to players in game.

  2. Automatic reconnection

After a network interruption, the link tries to reconnect without manual input, though occasionally a restart is needed.

  3. Log deletion command

A command removes the logs that WALink writes, which can contain sensitive message content.

Use cases

Small friend servers

A group of players on a private server can follow the same conversation in WhatsApp and in game.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run a small server for friends and accept the account risk described by the author. The author states that using the mod against WhatsApp's terms can lead to the account being terminated and advises against use beyond experimentation.

How it compares

Full comparison

Chunni Discord chat link is also server-side only and open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, but it targets Discord and only Minecraft 1.21.1. Fabric-Discord-Link is server-side only and open source under the MIT License, with files for 1.5.2 – 1.18.1, so it covers older versions and a different chat service. Voice Group Switch is client-side only and not open source, released under All rights reserved for 1.21.11 – 26.2.

Questions

Does WALink need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency and must be installed on the server next to WALink.

Does a player need WALink installed to chat?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

Is it safe to link a WhatsApp group?

The author says the link can violate WhatsApp's terms, that the account may be terminated, and that messages are stored in server logs, so the author recommends deleting logs with the command the mod provides.

What the author says

Experimental Minecraft mod that links the in-game text chat to a WhatsApp group chat without eating up the ram of your average Chrome tab. (The reason I mention the RAM usage is, some other implementations of WhatsApp automation literally open up a Chrome tab!) Bugs, crashes and freezes may occur, it's still…
