Villagers Reborn

by Javieljefe

With Villagers Reborn installed, the villagers, illagers, witches and wandering traders in a world are replaced by human models that keep their vanilla jobs and trades.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

Villagers Reborn swaps the vanilla villager, illager, witch and wandering trader models for custom human models while keeping the original professions, trades and features. Villagers receive a name, a temperament, custom gear and a conversation system that players can talk through, and the new sounds apply to villagers, illagers and wandering merchants alike. Player skins come from Skindex, and the mod credits the skin authors through Skin Credits.

Relationships are the core addition: a player can court a villager, move toward marriage and then raise a household together. The mod works in existing worlds and pairs with the custom trades and professions of other mods. It runs in single player, local and LAN multiplayer, and on dedicated servers, so the server and every player need it. Builds are published for Forge and NeoForge across three release versions, 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and 1.21.11, under the MIT License, and the source code is open source.

Key features

  1. Human villager models

Villager models are replaced with custom human models, and the vanilla jobs and trades continue to work on them.

  2. Family system

Villagers can date, marry and start families, which adds a social layer to the existing trading gameplay.

  3. Named villagers with dialogue

Each villager gets a name, a temperament, custom gear and a conversation system that players can talk through.

  4. Replaced illagers, witches and traders

Illagers, witches and wandering merchants get their own human models and new sounds in place of the vanilla versions.

How it compares

Full comparison

MCA Reborn x Easy Villagers Compat is a Forge and NeoForge compatibility addon, released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, and it runs client and server. MCA: Conversations is a separate Forge and NeoForge addon under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, also for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 and client and server. Villagers Reborn is MIT licensed and covers 1.20.1 – 1.21.11, so it reaches newer versions than either addon.
