MCA: Conversations

by otectus

MCA: Conversations expands the dialogue of Minecraft Comes Alive villagers, turning the chat menu into a hub of longer, topic-based talks.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Conversations replaces the repeatable chat buttons of MCA with a larger hub covering topics such as everyday life, profession work, food preferences, village life, dreams and fears, personal history, relationships and gossip. Each villager keeps individual interests and values, remembers earlier discussions and reacts differently depending on the topic and the player's answers. Events happening around the village can carry a conversation across several encounters.

Available topics depend on the relationship with the villager, so relationship-specific subjects only appear once the bond is strong enough. Hearts remain MCA's authoritative relationship value, and Conversations builds on them with extra context, memory and personality. Many topics unfold as full exchanges rather than single lines, and the player decides how to respond to a villager's bad day, disagreement or personal concern. Some deeper responses use deterministic dialogue checks that are influenced by the relationship and the villager's mood.

The add-on requires the Minecraft Comes Alive mod, and Conversations is published for Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 1.8.0 as the latest file. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. The code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later and is open source.

Key features

  1. Hub-based conversation menu

The chat interaction of MCA opens a larger hub with many topics instead of a short list of repeatable buttons.

  2. Persistent villager memory

Villagers remember earlier discussions and react to them in later encounters, so talks build on one another.

  3. Relationship-gated topics

Personal and relationship subjects only appear when the bond with a villager is developed enough to make them fit.

  4. Asking is not rewarded automatically

Asking a question does not grant hearts by itself; the way the player responds is what matters.
