Villager API
by frikinjay
Villager API lets pack makers and modders define custom villager professions, biome types and trades through JSON files, with no Java code required.
What it does
The mod is a data-driven framework: files placed in a villagerpacks folder define new professions with their workstation blocks and trading lists, villager types tied to specific biomes, and the trades each villager offers at every level. Packs can be loaded as a regular resource pack or as a villagers folder inside the mods directory, and several packs can run together, with later packs overriding earlier ones where they overlap.
Custom trades can also replace or merge into the vanilla or other modded villager trades. Post-raid hero gifts are configured with custom loot tables. The mod handles registration and trade mechanics itself, so a pack only needs the JSON files. Fabric API is required on every loader, and the mod runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Files are published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, with the 1.21.1 build and the 26.x builds 1.21.11 – 26.3 released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code is open source.
Key features
Custom professions
New jobs are defined with their own workstation block and trading list, linked to a point of interest type.
Biome-based villager types
Villager appearances can be tied to specific biomes, so the same profession looks different across the world.
Per-level trade control
Each villager level can have its own set of items to buy and sell, including modded items.
Hero gift loot tables
Custom loot tables define the rewards villagers give after a raid is won.
Trade merging
Custom trades can be added to or override the trades of vanilla and other modded villagers.
