Unobtrusive Effects
by VertigoGX
Unobtrusive Effects is a Fabric client mod that hides certain status-effect visuals in first-person view, such as the fire overlay under Fire Resistance and nearby potion swirl particles.
What it does
It also culls potion swirl particles near the player in first-person view, within a distance the player can set. Both changes only affect what is drawn on the local client, and the effects themselves still apply in gameplay.
Only the client needs the mod, so players install it while servers run without it. It requires Fabric Loader and Fabric API, and Mod Menu is optional, giving a settings screen for its options. The source code and issue tracker are public, and the code is under the MIT License, so the project is open source.
Files target 1.21.4 – 26.3 across 13 release versions, with 1.5.0 for 26.3 as the latest Fabric file, published on 2026-06-16. The mod first appeared on 2025-03-17 and is catalogued under Decoration, with Utility as a secondary category.
Key features
Fire overlay hidden
Fire Resistance being active turns off the on-screen fire overlay, so nothing is drawn over the view.
Potion swirl culling
Potion swirl particles close to the player are not drawn in first-person view, up to a set distance.
Adjustable distance
The distance used for culling potion swirl particles can be changed in the mod's options.
Local rendering only
Changes apply to the local client's drawing, so gameplay and other players' views are unaffected.

Use cases
Clearer first-person view
A player who uses Fire Resistance to cross lava or fire can keep the screen free of the fire overlay.
Potion use without clutter
Players who drink many potions can reduce the swirl particles drawn around their own view.
Who it’s for: Players on the Fabric loader who want a cleaner first-person view while using fire resistance or potions. Servers do not need the mod, since it changes only client rendering.
