Things

by Wisp Forest

With Things installed, players gain a set of small equipment items and utility features that build on the vanilla game without changing its core rules.

FabricQuiltClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.16.2 – 1.21.1

What it does

The Displacement Tome is a teleport item modeled on the Warp Book and its many clones. It stores up to 8 locations and spends Ender Pearls as fuel to travel between them. In a semi-vanilla setup its cost is high, and larger modpacks may need to rebalance it. The Bater Wucket provides an infinite water source in a single bucket item. The Enchanted Wax Gland is a trinket inspired by the Stone of the Sea, letting the wearer float in water and gaining a strong speed bonus; combining it with another item allows floating in lava as well.

Things runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Fabric and Quilt across 21 game versions, 1.16.2 – 1.21.1, and is released under the MIT License as open source. Installation needs Accessories, Lavender and oωo (owo-lib). Trinkets API is required for 1.17 and later builds.

Key features

  1. Displacement Tome

A teleport item that stores up to 8 locations and consumes Ender Pearls as fuel for each jump.

  2. Bater Wucket

An infinite water bucket that supplies water without emptying.

  3. Enchanted Wax Gland

A trinket that grants floating in water and a large speed boost, with a combination recipe that extends floating to lava.

  4. Mostly non-intrusive additions

Many small and a few larger items that extend the vanilla experience without rewriting its systems.

Modpack balancing

Pack authors can keep the tome in place and adjust its Ender Pearl cost to fit larger progression systems.

Who it’s for: Players and pack makers who want a light set of equipment and utility items on Fabric or Quilt, with trinket slots provided by the required libraries.

Questions

Which libraries does Things require?

Accessories, Lavender and oωo (owo-lib) are required. Trinkets API is required from 1.17 onward.

Does Things have to be installed on both sides?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Is the Displacement Tome balanced for modpacks?

The author describes it as expensive in a semi-vanilla context and notes that bigger modpacks would need to balance it.

What the author says

Things is a collection of many small and a few bigger items and features that I feel enhance the vanilla experience in a mostly non-intrusive way Most items have minimalistic documentation in their tooltip, Patchouli is highly recommended however as there is a very fleshed out book.
