The Printer
by spadeteam
With The Printer installed, a player can place an item in a machine and receive a duplicate of it, paid for with experience.
What it does
The Printer is a Fabric and Quilt mod that adds a printing machine. A player places an item in the machine empty, starts it by sneaking, and deposits experience into it. The experience bar fills and the printing process begins. A translucent copy of the item appears above the machine and grows more opaque over time, and once it is completely solid the printed item can be taken out. Each copy keeps the enchantments, custom name and remaining data of the item it was made from. Duplicate items cost experience time, and the cost, duration and stack size depend on several factors, including the item's material type and rarity.
The mod can also be controlled by automation. Hoppers can take printed items out of the machine, and the printer picks up lingering experience orbs on its own. A game rule called enablePrinter decides whether the printer may be used, and it is on by default. The Printer is heavily extended through the Printer Rules data-driven system, which lets a pack modify the values that apply to each item. The mod is open source under the MIT License and requires Fabric API. It runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and its files cover 1.19 – 1.20.4 for Fabric and Quilt.
