Text Styles
by RazorPlay01
With Text Styles installed, chat messages, book pages and signs can carry animated, colored and per-character text effects written as simple tags.
What it does
Text Styles is a library for applying text effects. A style is registered once in a registry and then called from a short tag, so a single line can wrap a word in a rainbow, a wave or a typewriter reveal. The mod ships more than 15 built-in styles, and effect parameters such as speed, distance and frequency are set inside the tag. Short aliases are supported for tight spaces like signs.
Styles are serialized with Codecs, so they fit into Minecraft's own text system and its NBT data. Official formatting codes keep working inside the system. The mod requires Fabric API and runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Builds cover 1.21.1, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2, with the latest files for Fabric and NeoForge dated 2026-08-20. The code is open source under the MIT License.
Key features
Registry-based styles
New styles are registered in a registry, which keeps each effect separate and simple to maintain.
Adjustable effect parameters
Speed, distance, frequency and other aspects of an effect are set with parameters inside the tag.
Per-glyph rendering
Gradients and per-character animations are drawn one glyph at a time, so color and motion can vary within a word.
Short tag aliases
Full style names or short aliases can be used, which helps where space is limited, such as signs.

Use cases
Animated chat messages
A player can add movement, color cycles or a typed reveal to a message in chat.
Book and sign text
Short tag names let book pages and signs carry styled lettering without long markup.
Custom styles from other mods
Mods can register their own styles and parameters, so the set of effects is not fixed to the built-ins.
Who it’s for: Players who want more expressive text in chat, books and signs, and mod authors who add their own text effects. Server owners can run it because the mod is built for compatibility and extension.
How it compares
Title Writer is server-required with client optional, open source under the MIT License, and covers 1.20.5 – 26.2 across Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Chat Bubbles is client-side only, released under CC0 1.0 Universal, and built for Fabric 1.21.9 – 26.3. Text Styles is client and server with its own registry-based design, so it needs installing on both sides.
