What it does

The mod changes overworld terrain by adding a small set of biomes and filling each one with many component biomes, foliage and surface detail. The authors chose fewer biomes with more detail over a long list of separate ones, so the new terrain reads as one cohesive region. Some biomes include variants to add variety within the same climate.

Among its biomes are cypress wetlands, dense woodland stands, a humid tropical rainforest and several conifer and broadleaf forest types. Nine new wood types come with them, so trees and building blocks match the new terrain. Fabric API is required, and Biolith is bundled inside the mod, so no separate install is needed for it.

Terrestria is client and server: the server and every player need the mod. It is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Builds cover 1.16.5 – 26.2 across 32 release versions, with snapshot builds published and the latest Fabric and Quilt files at 8.1.0-beta.2 for 26.2 on the beta channel. The mod was first published on 2021-01-22 and last updated on 2026-09-18. Forge is not planned.

Key features

  1. Overworld biomes

Seventeen major biomes add new forests, swamps and rainforests to the overworld terrain.

  2. Component biomes

Twenty-four component biomes fill the major biomes with finer terrain patches and detail.

  3. New wood types

Nine wood types supply logs, planks and other wood blocks for building in the new biomes.

  4. Foliage selection

A set of new plants and ground cover adds surface detail across the biomes.
