Take It
by cutexxgirl
Take It changes how items are picked up in Minecraft Java Edition: instead of collecting items by walking over them, players pick them up on purpose with a key press.
What it does
Vanilla picks up any item a player walks past. Take It turns this off and replaces it with a manual pickup, triggered by a right-click or a configurable hotkey. The pickup uses the game's own player pickup event rather than moving the item into the inventory by hand, so other mods that track pickups, such as Loot Journal, still register the items. Because pickups are deliberate, players no longer grab stray items by accident while walking through a base or a dropped stack.
The mod is set up through a config file: the pickup radius can be set separately for the X, Y and Z axes, with a default of 2 blocks on each axis, and each feature can be toggled. The pickup key follows the standard Controls settings, and the whole mod can be disabled. Take It is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 only, and it runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source.
Key features
Disable automatic pickup
Walking over an item no longer collects it, so dropped items stay where they land until picked up on purpose.
Click or hotkey pickup
Right-clicking an item, or pressing a configurable hotkey, picks it up within the configured radius.
Adjustable pickup radius
The radius is set per axis in the config, with a default of 2 blocks on X, Y and Z.
Vanilla pickup event
Pickups fire the game's own player pickup event, which keeps tracking mods and achievements working.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want to decide which items they collect, and server owners who want pickups to be deliberate on a Forge 1.20.1 server. Both the server and every player install the mod.
How it compares
TACZ Field Pickup is also a Forge 1.20.1 mod that runs on client and server, with the MIT License, but it is not open source. Pickup works on Fabric and Forge across 1.16.5 – 1.20.6 under the MIT License and is open source. Item Pickup Toast is open source under the MIT License, but it is client-side only and covers 1.21.1 – 1.21.5, so it does not change pickup behavior for a server.
