Douse It

by cutexxgirl

Douse It replaces the blocky fire texture drawn over burning entities with smoke and flame particles that resemble a campfire.

ForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1

What it does

When a player or mob catches fire, the vanilla flat overlay is hidden and the entity is covered with particles instead. Flames and smoke rise in a column across the body, closer to the look of a real campfire than the default texture.

The mod is client-side only, so a server does not need it and players can join without installing it. Options cover the particle toggle, spawn chance and density, whether the effect spreads over the full body or stays centered, and vertical speed. Douse It is published for Forge and 1.20.1 only, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Fire overlay removal

The intrusive blocky fire texture that covers burning entities, including the player, is hidden.

  2. Flame and smoke particles

Neat flame and smoke particles take the place of the overlay, giving the burning effect a campfire-like appearance.

  3. Adjustable density

Spawn chance and particle density can be changed, so the effect can be made lighter or heavier.

  4. Body coverage and speed

The effect can be spread across the whole body or kept centered, and the vertical speed of the rising particles can be tweaked.

Use cases

Immersion-focused play

Players who want burning creatures and the player's own character to look less like flat textures can use Douse It to change how fire appears.

Who it’s for: Players who want a different visual style for burning entities on the client side. Because the mod only affects rendering, it suits any single-player or multiplayer client running Forge 1.20.1.

How it compares

Full comparison

No Campfire Smoke works on the client, with a server optional, and is published for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 under All rights reserved. Campfire Timer needs both client and server and covers the same 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 range under All rights reserved. Douse It is client-side only, targets just 1.20.1, and is open source under the MIT License, so it needs nothing on the server.
