Superior Smelting expands vanilla smelting with extra recipes, so raw ore blocks, stone variants, glass and chorus fruit can be processed in a furnace, blast furnace or smoker.

What it does

The mod adds balanced smelting recipes that follow the patterns of vanilla recipes. Raw ore blocks can be smelted directly, and a golden chestplate can be reduced to gold nuggets or ingots when it is burned. Heavy items such as diamond helmets can be smelted back into diamonds in a blast furnace, and stairs, slabs and smooth stone variants can be smelted into their counterparts.

Mossy blocks can be placed in a furnace to remove the moss, a method inspired by the Remove Moss Stone datapack. A blast furnace makes glass in half the usual time, and a smoker makes popped chorus fruit twice as fast. Built-in extensions support other mods, so compatible mods can be used alongside the recipes without extra setup.

Superior Smelting needs to run on the server, while players may add it without any penalty. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the mod is also available as a data pack. Builds cover 1.21 – 26.3, with snapshot releases published, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

    Raw iron, gold and copper blocks smelt directly into their blocks of metal, skipping the step of smelting single ores.

    Stairs, slabs and stone variants can be smelted into smooth versions, which adds an alternative to cutting them by hand.

  3. Faster glass and chorus recipes

    Glass is made twice as fast in a blast furnace, and popped chorus fruit is made twice as fast in a smoker.

  4. Moss removal in the furnace

    Mossy blocks can be burned in a furnace to remove the moss and return the stone underneath.
