Steak is not a Potion reworks how natural regeneration and hunger interact, so food restores health in a slower, more gradual way.
What it does
Natural regeneration is slowed down, and eating consumes saturation in a different way. Heal rate depends on hunger: a player above 10 hunger points heals about every 5 seconds, while the rate drops to roughly every 10 seconds below half of the hunger bar. Below half, starving is also in effect. Modded foods with high saturation values were previously strong healing sources under the vanilla system, and the mod is intended to make that healing last longer.
The mod is client and server, and both sides need it. It is released under the MIT License, and its source code is public. Files exist for Fabric and Quilt, for 1.18.1 and 1.18.2.
Key features
Slower natural regeneration
Health returns more slowly than in vanilla, so a full meal no longer restores the bar in a few seconds.
Hunger-based healing rate
Regeneration speed depends on the hunger bar, with faster healing above 10 points and slower healing below half.
Adjusted saturation and exhaustion
Saturation is partly offset with a small exhaustion cost tied to healing, so high-saturation foods do not carry the same healing weight.
