Starter Structure

by Serilum

With Starter Structure installed, a schematic file from the config folder is placed at the spawn point when a new world is generated.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.16.5 – 26.3

What it does

When a world is first generated, the mod searches the config folder for a schematic file and selects one. Both structure block schematics in .nbt format and WorldEdit schematics in .schem or .schematic format are read. Structure block schematics keep entity data, so saved entities can appear directly, while WorldEdit schematics need signs in the file to mark where entities spawn. Custom NBT data works with both formats.

WorldEdit does not have to be installed on the server for the mod to run; it is only needed to create a schematic, after which it can be removed. Builders can also prepare files in a separate game instance and add them to a modpack. The mod requires Collective on every loader, and it runs on the server side only, so players join without installing anything. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with the latest build covering 26.3, and the code is licensed as All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Spawn point placement

Players can always appear at the configured coordinates, moved to the nearest air pocket, instead of a random spawn area.

  2. Tree-aware placement

Leaves and logs are ignored during placement, so the structure is not built on top of trees.

  3. Block and entity protection

Structure blocks and spawned entities can be protected from breaking and damage, with separate exceptions for creative mode players.

  4. Custom spawned entities

Entities saved in structure block schematics can be spawned directly, and entities without a sign can be placed by sign markers in WorldEdit schematics.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Server owners and modpack authors who want a prepared building at the spawn point of new worlds. Players need nothing beyond joining the server.

How it compares

Full comparison

Structures' spawn biomes fix is a server-required mod for 1.18.2 – 26.3 with an optional client side, under All rights reserved and not open source. ChestRoulette is also server-required, for 1.19 – 26.3, and is not open source. Cherry Grove Starter House needs both the client and the server, covers 1.20.1 – 26.3, and is not open source. Each of these works on a different part of world generation or spawning, so the choice depends on whether a schematic or a biome-based setup is wanted.

Questions

Does Starter Structure need Collective?

Yes. Collective is a required dependency and must be installed alongside Starter Structure on every supported loader.

Does WorldEdit have to be installed on the server?

No. WorldEdit is only used to generate a schematic file, after which it can be removed. The mod reads the resulting file without it.

What the author says

Starter Structure adds the possibility to generate a specific structure when a world is first being generated. It looks in the config folder for schematic files, picks one, and places it at the spawn point. Both structure block schematics (SBS,.nbt file) and WorldEdit schematics (WES,.schem/.schematic file) are…
