Stardew Fishing
by garflemn
Stardew Fishing replaces instant catches with a bobber minigame, drawn from the fishing in a farming game, for Forge and NeoForge.
What it does
Instead of catching a fish on the spot, a player clicks to push a small green bobber bar upward. Keeping that bar on the fish fills a progress meter on the side, and a full meter catches the fish. Hooks now take skill and timing rather than a single right-click.
A simple datapack controls how hard each fish is to catch. The default behaviour applies to all fish, and specific fish can be set to move harder, for example through top speed, acceleration and average move distance, so rarer species can be made more difficult. The mod works with Aquaculture Fishing Rods, whose support is optional, and includes food integration: the quality of a caught fish depends on the player's bobber accuracy. Without the mod, that tag is not added, so it causes no conflicts with stacking.
The mod is client and server: the server and every player need it. Builds cover 1.20.1 – 26.2 and are published for Forge and NeoForge, with the latest Forge file being 3.7 for 1.20.1 and the latest NeoForge file 3.7 for 26.2. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with the source code public.
Key features
Bobber accuracy minigame
Players click to move a green bobber bar and keep it on the fish to fill the progress meter.
Datapack fish difficulty
A datapack sets the movement speed and behaviour of all fish, or of individual species.
Aquaculture rod support
Aquaculture Fishing Rods work with the minigame, and difficulty values can be set for specific fish.
Food quality integration
A caught fish's quality follows the player's bobber accuracy, stored as data on the item.

Use cases
Harder rare fish
Server owners can raise the difficulty of rare species with a datapack while leaving common fish at the default.
Skill-based fishing
Players who want fishing to take timing instead of a single click can use the minigame on every rod.
Who it’s for: Players who want fishing to involve timing, and server owners who want to adjust how fish are caught through a datapack.
