Stackables
by Roundaround
Stackables lets a server owner raise the stack size of selected items that vanilla Minecraft keeps at one, sixteen or thirty-two.
What it does
The mod changes the maximum stack size of some items that normally do not stack: potions, lingering and splash potions, stews and soups, enchanted books, regular chest boats, minecarts, and buckets holding powder snow, water or lava. Changes are made through the server configuration, so a stack size is set per item group rather than per world. Stackables runs on the server only, so players join without installing anything, and the code is released under the MIT License as open source.
Installation works on Fabric and Quilt, with files across 10 release versions. The most recent builds, 2.0.1+1.20.3 for 1.20.4, were published on 2024-01-06. Version 2.0.0 moved the feature list to item tags, so the selection of affected items is defined by data rather than a fixed list. Public links cover the source code and the issue tracker, where bugs can be reported.
The author notes that the approach is fragile. Changing the maximum stack size changes assumptions made across many mods and vanilla code, and some drinking and replacement logic, such as the milk bucket, finishes by replacing the whole stack. Conflicts with other mods that touch the same code can make a bug harder to fix. Starting with Minecraft 1.20.5, the stack size of items is defined in data, so the author says continued support depends on a different design.
Key features
Stackable potions
Potions, lingering potions and splash potions can be stacked beyond their default size.
Stackable food and tools
Stews, soups and items that use wooden bowls can be stacked in larger groups.
Stackable books and boats
Enchanted books and regular chest boats gain larger stack sizes, which helps keep inventories tidy.
Stackable buckets
Buckets of powder snow, water and lava, together with minecarts, can be stored in bigger amounts.
Tag-based selection
Since version 2.0.0, the affected items are chosen through tags, so a pack can change the list without code changes.
