Spud's Revised Recipes

by AvocadoSpud

Spud's Revised Recipes changes several vanilla crafting recipes, including copper-based Lodestone, chains, and rails, so early-game costs shift.

What it does

The mod replaces a set of item recipes that Minecraft's default values leave unbalanced. Lodestones take copper in their crafting path, chains yield more than one ingot's worth per craft, and rails cost less material, which makes the early game move faster. Each change is a recipe file that loads through the server.

The mod is a server-side recipe revision: only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a data pack for servers that prefer that route. Files cover 1.20.6 – 1.21.1, with 2.0.0 as the latest build for 1.21.1, released 2024-10-08. The mod is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Copper-based Lodestone recipe

The Lodestone recipe uses copper, giving the block a crafting path that relies on a resource found early.

  2. Cheaper rails

Rails require less material to craft, so early-game track networks take fewer resources.

  3. Balanced chain yield

The chain recipe returns a number of chains closer to the ingot cost, instead of extra links per ingot.

  4. Recipe rework across items

Several item recipes are adjusted in one pass, covering changes the game makes to how items are obtained.

Use cases

Early-game progression

Players who want rails and Lodestones sooner can progress through the early game with fewer resources spent on those items.

Server rule sets

Server owners can keep the revised recipes for everyone on the server without asking players to install anything.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want adjusted recipe costs for their world, and players on those servers who want a faster early game without a client-side install.

Questions

Does Spud's Revised Recipes need to be installed on clients?

No. Only the server has to run the mod; a player's game works with or without it, so neither side is forced to install it on the client.

Which loader should a server use?

The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a data pack, so the server can use any of those. The 2.0.0 build for 1.21.1 is available on each.

Which game versions are supported?

Files exist for 1.20.6, 1.21 and 1.21.1, which is the range 1.20.6 – 1.21.1.
