Spear Core

by lying-ice

Spear Core is a Forge and NeoForge library that supplies a complete spear weapon system for other mods and modpacks.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

The library provides the spearcore:spear item type, a shared core for spear weapons. Spear Core ships movement-driven damage, hit detection, charge stages and mob AI already implemented, so a dependent mod can register a functional spear with only a handful of Java lines. The author uses the same core behind their own spear mods, and it is the base that Avaritia Spear and Enigmatic Armor build on.

Pack makers can register extra spears through KubeJS scripts and never touch Java, since the library exposes full KubeJS integration. A KubeJS script can build an item from the library's spear class, and the KubeJS guide documents the steps. KubeJS is an optional dependency, and Punchy! is listed as optional too.

The mod is open source under the MIT License and its source code and wiki are public. Files are published for two game versions, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 3.1.0 as the latest file on each loader. Installation covers the server and each player's game.

Key features

  1. Spear item type

The spearcore:spear item type gives weapons a consistent base for damage and handling.

  2. Charge phases

Spears move through charge phases tied to player movement, with damage applied on hit.

  3. Mob AI goals

Included AI goals let mobs use spear attacks, so custom spears can be wielded by monsters too.

  4. KubeJS scripting

Pack authors define new spears in KubeJS scripts using the library's spear class, with no Java needed.

Use cases

Building spear mods

Developers can depend on the library and reuse its spear logic instead of writing hit detection and charge handling from scratch.

Modpack spear additions

Pack makers add new spears through KubeJS, adjusting the weapon set without a Java build.

Who it’s for: Mod developers who want a shared spear base, and modpack authors who want custom spears through scripts. Players only meet it through the mods that use it.

How it compares

Full comparison

SinoCore is a Client and server library for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, under a custom license and not open source. Render.js is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, but it runs client-side only and targets 1.20.1 alone. Spear Core covers both 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 on Forge and NeoForge, with the environment set to client and server.

What the author says

The shared core behind this author's spear mods: movement-based damage, hit detection, charge phases and mob AI — with first-class KubeJS support so modpack authors can add their own spears without writing Java.
