Sort It Out!
by Jam Core
Players who want their chests and inventories tidied can use Sort It Out!, which arranges item stacks on demand and in configurable ways.
What it does
Sorting can be triggered in several ways, and each trigger can be turned on or off in the configuration. Stacks are ordered by a list of comparators. If the first comparator treats two stacks as equal, the next one breaks the tie, and the list can be extended as far as needed. An option inverts the final order, so the same comparators can produce descending results.
The mod's settings open in an in-game configuration screen, reached through the mods screen on Forge and NeoForge and through the configuration menu on Fabric. When the mod is absent from the client, players can read and change their preferences with the /sortitout preferences command instead. Those preferences persist across rejoins and server restarts.
Sort It Out! needs Fabric API and JamLib. Its code is under the MIT License and is open source, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with game versions 1.20.1 – 26.3.
Key features
Configurable sorting
Sorting order, comparators and triggers can each be adjusted to suit how a player arranges items.
Double-click sorting
Double-clicking an empty slot starts a sort; the slot used for this trigger can be configured.
Inverted order
A setting reverses the sorting direction so stacks appear in the opposite order.
Comparator chain
A list of comparators compares item stacks in turn, with each later entry used only to settle ties left by the earlier ones.
Data-driven sort buttons
Sort button locations can be defined through data files, letting a pack place them on other screens.

Use cases
Mixed setups
Where the mod is on the server alone, its preferences are kept by the server, and players whose clients lack it can still sort.
Who it’s for: Players who keep large item collections in storage, and server owners who want a sort option available to players whose clients have no mod installed.
