Snow Control

by USeAr3658

Snow Control lets a Forge player choose exactly which blocks may be covered by snow and in which height range the snow may appear.

What it does

Snow Control is a client-side utility for Minecraft 1.16.5 on Forge. A player decides which blocks can carry snow and which cannot, so snow stops forming on surfaces the player does not want covered. The rules are set on a dedicated screen, and each rule can be narrowed to a minimum and maximum Y level, so snow can be limited to a chosen band of heights.

The mod ships as a single Forge file for 1.16.5, published on 2025-12-22 and last updated on 2026-01-16. It is built for client and server, so the server and every player need it. The code is released under the MIT License, and the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Block selection

Any block can be chosen as a surface that snow may or may not cover, based on the player's own preferences.

  2. Two-column rule editor

A transparent screen lists the available blocks on the left and the active snow rules on the right, both scrollable.

  3. Block search

A search field filters the block list by name, so a specific block can be found quickly among many entries.

  4. Rule adjustment

Double-clicking a rule opens its minimum and maximum Y levels for editing, and a delete button removes it.

Use cases

Keeping snow off built areas

A builder can block snow from forming on roofs, paths or decorative blocks that should stay bare.

Limiting snow to a height band

A player can restrict snow to a chosen range of Y levels, for example mountain tops only.

Who it’s for: Players who build on snowy biomes and want exact control over snow placement. Server owners can use it too, since the server must run it alongside the players' clients.
