Sleep Rework

by Lemon

Sleep Rework changes how the bed and tiredness work in Minecraft Java Edition, so a player can only sleep once their tiredness reaches 100%.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 1.20.1

What it does

Tiredness builds up over time and is tracked as a percentage that can rise to 500%. A bed can be used only at 100% or higher; below that, the player receives a message saying they are not tired enough to rest. Sleeping successfully resets tiredness to 0%. Brewing is another lever: a tiredness-altering drink can quicken or slow the rate at which the meter climbs.

Once tiredness passes 300%, phantoms begin to spawn, which makes sleep close to necessary for players who stay awake for long stretches. Sleep stays available at any time, so a player can skip the night when they choose. The mod is fairly configurable, and the author notes that players may tweak it to their own taste.

Sleep Rework requires Architectury API and Fabric API, and it runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. Servers and players both need it. Files cover 1.20 and 1.20.1, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Tiredness percentage

Tiredness rises over time and is capped at 500%, with beds usable only once it reaches 100%.

  2. Sleep reset

A successful sleep sets tiredness back to 0%, so the cycle starts again.

  3. Brewable tiredness drinks

Brewed drinks can accelerate or decelerate the tiredness meter, giving players a way to adjust the pace.

  4. Phantom threshold

Phantoms begin to spawn when tiredness reaches 300% by default, tying sleep to night-time danger.

Use cases

Long survival runs

Players who want sleep to be a real need rather than a free skip can keep tiredness on a timer and plan rest around phantom spawns.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want sleep to depend on tiredness and who are willing to adjust the settings to their liking. The author notes the mod may not suit everyone.
