Simple Chat Emojis
by Crosby
Simple Chat Emojis lets players type emoji codes in chat and see them drawn as images on the client, without changing how the chat looks to anyone else.
What it does
Emoji images are inserted into chat messages on the client, and the mod is configurable from its settings. Custom emojis can be added through a resource pack by placing image assets under the simple-chat-emojis namespace in the textures folder. Fabric API is required, and the Fabric loader is the only one with files.
Only the client needs the mod, so a server does not have to install it and players without it see ordinary text. Files exist for Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.20.2, and the 1.0.0 build for 1.20.2 was published on 2023-10-17. The code is open source under the MIT License.
Key features
Configurable chat emojis
Emoji rendering can be adjusted in the settings, so the look of inserted images can be tuned to taste.
Resource pack emojis
New emojis are added by dropping image files into a resource pack, with no code changes needed.
Chat text sizing
Message width accounts for emoji images so long lines are not cut off where an emoji appears.
