Shield Lib is a library that lets other mods add shields with banner support, enchantment support and custom shapes.

What it does

The library gives mod authors a common base for new shields, so shields can take banner patterns, carry enchantments and use shapes other than the vanilla one. Mods that depend on it are required by 8 catalog mods, including Basic Shields, Etherology, Distinct Shields, PlusCraft and Amethyst Additions. Shield Lib is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt across 40 release versions, 1.14 – 1.21.8, and it bundles Architectury API and MidnightLib.

Client and server both need it, and Mod Menu is an optional dependency. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, and public links exist for the source code and the issue tracker.

    Shields built on the library can show banner patterns in the same way as vanilla shields.

  2. Enchanted shield types

    Shields built on the library can carry enchantments, so other mods can add enchanted shield types.

  3. Custom shield shapes

    Shield models can use shapes other than the vanilla one, letting mod authors design distinct shield looks.
