Resource Reload Guard
Resource Reload Guard holds back unsafe client resource reloads, letting players confirm, defer or block them before they run.
What it does
When a resource reload is triggered, the mod checks whether it would be unnecessary or unsafe and applies the policy chosen in its configuration. Each policy setting takes one of four values: ALLOW, CONFIRM, BLOCK, or RESTART ONLY. The mod never blocks a reload automatically, and it estimates how long a reload will take so the player can decide with that in mind. The number of loaded mods is used only for an informational warning and does not change the outcome.
Resource packs are checked for being turned on, turned off, or moved to a new position, and a selection gets no reapplication when neither the set of IDs nor their sequence has changed. The same check covers the language, so a reload is skipped when the selected language has not changed. A discarded selection restores the previous state before the screen is closed, and a saved selection is applied on the next launch. Fabric API is required, and the mod is open source under the MIT License.
Resource Reload Guard is a client-side only mod: only the client needs it, and a server does not run it. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with builds for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 (1.21.1 is the latest for Fabric and NeoForge, 1.20.1 the latest for Forge). Its settings are written to a commented TOML file that is generated on first launch.
Key features
Reload policies
Each reload can be allowed, confirmed, blocked or restricted to a restart, according to the configured policy value.
Pack change detection
Enabled, disabled and reordered resource packs are detected, so a reload runs only when the pack selection has actually changed.
Language change check
A reload is skipped when the selected language is unchanged, avoiding a reload that would not change anything.
Duration estimate
The expected length of a reload is estimated so the player can judge whether to confirm it.
Selection restore
Discarding a pack selection restores the previous state before the screen is opened, and the saved selection is applied on the next launch.
