0Pack2Reload

by TachibanaSherry

Resource pack screens reload packs on exit even when nothing changed, and 0Pack2Reload stops that reload when the pack list is unchanged.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyCustom license1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

The mod stops Minecraft from reloading resource packs when the player closes the pack selection screen without changing the selected packs. Before the first visit, options.txt records resourcepacks as empty, so the game would otherwise treat the untouched list as new packs and reload them, which can be slow when many modded packs are installed. With 0Pack2Reload, pressing Esc or clicking Done triggers no reload unless the list was actually edited.

The mod also adds a Cancel button to the PackSelectionScreen. Cancel leaves the screen without running any of the pack logic. Only the client needs the mod, and it is built for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across the 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 game versions, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. The mod is released under a custom license and is not open source, although its source code is public.

Key features

  1. No reload on unchanged packs

Closing the pack screen without edits skips the reload that the game would otherwise run.

  2. Cancel button

A Cancel button on the resource pack screen exits without applying any pack logic.

  3. Faster pack screen exit

Players with many modded resource packs avoid a long wait each time they leave the screen unchanged.

Use cases

Heavy modpacks

Modpacks with many resource packs spend less time reloading when a player only browses the pack list.

Pre-world setup

Players who adjust packs before creating or joining a world avoid a reload that the untouched list would otherwise trigger.

Who it’s for: Players who use many resource packs and want the pack screen to close without a reload when nothing was changed. Only the client needs the mod, so server owners do not have to install it.

What the author says

However, before the player opens the resource pack screen for the first time, the game's options.txt still records resourcepacks=[] as empty. So when opening the resource pack selection screen before creating or joining a world, even if the player does nothing (no adding, removing, or reordering), clicking "Done" or…
