PackForge - Optimized Resource Pack Loading Time
by Teenkung123
PackForge speeds up resource pack loading by indexing each ZIP once per reload, so large packs reach the title screen sooner.
What it does
Minecraft normally searches through a resource pack many times while loading, which makes the loading screen long when a pack contains thousands of models, textures, sounds and JSON files. PackForge builds a fast internal index of the pack, so the game finds files directly instead of repeatedly scanning the whole archive. The mod is aimed mainly at large server resource packs, such as those generated by ItemsAdder or ModelEngine, and at heavily customized packs.
PackForge is a client-side mod, so only the client needs it and servers run without it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source. Builds are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 10 release versions, and Mod Menu is an optional dependency for opening its settings.
Key features
Indexed resource pack loading
The pack is indexed once per reload, which avoids most of the repeated full scans of the ZIP.
Optional atlas protection
Oversized textures can be downscaled in temporary copies during loading, giving packs that exceed weaker GPU limits a better chance to load.
Skip loading fade-out
An option removes the fade-out after loading finishes, so the game moves on without the transition.
Loading time toast
A notification shows how long the resource pack took to load.
Configurable features
Each feature can be switched on or off individually in the settings screen.

Use cases
Joining servers with large packs
Players who connect to a server that sends a big resource pack spend less time on the loading screen.
Who it’s for: Players who use large or heavily customized resource packs, especially packs sent by servers, and who want shorter loading screens.
How it compares
Keep The ResourcePack is also open source under the MIT License and covers Fabric and Forge for 1.16.5 – 1.21.4, while PackForge covers Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. Better loading screen is an open source Fabric mod under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and targets 1.20.1 – 26.3, but it changes the loading screen rather than indexing packs. Server Resourcepack Checker is a client-side Fabric and Quilt mod under All rights reserved and is not open source.
