ReArm: Combat Overhaul

by pajic

ReArm: Combat Overhaul rebalances weapons, armor and enchantments on Fabric and NeoForge, and players who fight with bows or crossbows get the most changes.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.3

What it does

The mod changes how combat feels without rewriting the game. It reworks several weapons, armor pieces and enchantments, and it adds a new critical counter mechanic: a sword attack made shortly after blocking with a shield lands a critical strike, which vanilla swords do not allow. Each change can be turned off, and single damage numbers, cooldowns and timeframes can be edited in the config. The defaults are set to suit most players.

Bows and crossbows are given distinct roles. An enchanted bow supports mobility and skill-based fights, letting a player move through groups of enemies and land well-timed shots. An enchanted crossbow trades mobility for steady damage and can drop single enemies in one hit, ignoring defenses, while Power Infinity now applies to crossbows. Piercing, Impaling, Sweeping Edge and Looting Knockback are reworked as well, and Multishot and Knockback are no longer available on crossbows and swords.

The mod runs on the client and on the server, so both need it. It requires Fabric API, Fzzy Config and mixson, and it is published for Fabric and NeoForge across 11 release versions, 1.21 – 26.3. The code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Critical counter

A sword strike made soon after a shield block counts as a critical hit, giving shields an offensive use.

  2. Reworked Piercing

Piercing ignores a percentage of an armored enemy's armor based on its level, so piercing arrows can reach through heavy protection.

  3. Reworked Sweeping Edge

Sweeping Edge deals more damage, reaches farther and scales with level and the number of enemies hit.

  4. Reworked Impaling

Impaling now affects any mob caught in water or rain, not only a few specific aquatic mobs.
