Realistic Combat

by henos1029

Realistic Combat changes melee fights on Fabric so that where a hit lands and what the player holds both matter.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.18.2 – 1.19.1

What it does

Hits to different parts of the body deal different amounts of damage, so aiming becomes part of a fight. Thrown items can also hurt entities they strike. When health drops low, the player receives debuffs, which makes retreating and healing more pressing than in vanilla combat. Some items and blocks have their damage adjusted according to their weight, so a heavy tool hits differently from a light one.

The mod is client-side only, so a server does not need it installed and players can use it on their own while joining any server. It requires Fabric API and is released under the MIT License as open source. Builds target 1.19.1 as the latest file, 1.19.1+0.0.1, published on 2022-07-29 on the alpha channel, with 1.18.2 and 1.19 also covered by earlier files.

Key features

  1. Location-based hit damage

Strikes to different areas of the body deal different damage, rewarding precise attacks over quick, careless swings.

  2. Thrown items deal damage

Items that are thrown can injure entities they hit, adding a ranged option to close-range fights.

  3. Low-health debuffs

Falling below a set amount of health applies debuffs to the player, raising the cost of staying in a losing fight.

  4. Weight-based item damage

Damage values for some items and blocks are tuned according to their weight, so tools feel distinct in combat.

Use cases

Solo survival fights

A single player facing mobs or other players can use aimed strikes and retreat when health runs low.

Adding weight to combat

Players who want melee to feel heavier can rely on the weight-based damage changes for their weapons.

Who it’s for: Players who want combat to depend on aim, positioning and health management rather than on the vanilla damage model. Because the mod is client-side only, it suits single-player worlds and any multiplayer server, since the server does not run it.

How it compares

Full comparison

Construct and Better Combat is a server-required mod for Fabric, Forge and Quilt across 1.18.2 – 1.19.2, with all rights reserved, so a server must run it while clients may skip it. Combat Crafts is client and server on Fabric for 1.20.1 and is open source under the MIT License, so it needs both sides to run it. Realistic Combat is client-side only on Fabric, so only players install it.
