Random Break
by mochensky
Random Break replaces the drop from any broken block with a randomly chosen item, so breaking dirt or stone can return something from across the item pool.
What it does
Each time a block is broken, the mod swaps the usual drop for an item picked at random from Minecraft's full item pool. A dirt block can yield a diamond cake or even a dragon egg, and the result changes from break to break. Stone, ore and other blocks see the same behaviour, so the mechanic applies across the world rather than to a single tool or biome.
The mod requires Fabric API. Random Break is a server-side only mod, so only the server or the hosting player needs it installed, and players who join do not. It runs on Fabric for 1.16.5 – 26.2, with 34 release versions, and the latest Fabric file is 1.1.1 for 26.2, published 2026-07-13. The mod is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license and is not open source, although its source code and issue tracker are public. Its first release was on 2025-06-21.
Key features
Random block drops
Breaking a block yields a random item drawn from the full item pool instead of the block's normal drop.
Any block qualifies
Stone, dirt, ore and other blocks all trigger the random drop, so the effect is not limited to one material.
Vanilla compatibility
The drops work alongside vanilla gameplay and most other mods, with no changes to crafting or world generation.
Playable to completion
The mod does not stop the game from being finished, so a world with random drops can still reach the ending.

Use cases
Multiplayer chaos
A server owner installs the mod on the server alone, and every player on it receives unpredictable drops without any client-side setup.
Unpredictable adventure
Single-player players use it to turn routine mining into a run where each block may give something unexpected.
Who it’s for: Players who want unpredictable mining in survival or adventure worlds, and server owners who want shared chaos without asking players to install anything.
How it compares
Random Drops Mod targets Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.4 – 26.1.2, and needs both client and server. Random drop mod is server-side only like Random Break, but it supports just 1.21.11. Random Drops From Blocks (RDFB) is also server-side only and uses the MIT License rather than a Creative Commons license, covering 1.21 – 1.21.11. All alternatives are not open source.
