Quick Leaf Decay

by CobaltDev

Quick Leaf Decay speeds up leaf decay on the server, so leaves left floating after a tree is cut disappear sooner.

FabricQuiltServer-side onlyCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.20.4 – 26.3

What it does

Leaves that lose their connection to a log decay much faster than in vanilla. The check looks at diagonal neighbors as well as adjacent leaves, which makes stray leaves less likely to remain hanging in the air. Leaves that are two blocks from any support are also handled, and azalea's two leaf types follow the same rules.

Only the server needs the mod: clients join without installing anything, and the change takes effect in every world the server runs. Fabric API is a required dependency on Fabric. Quilt is also supported, and the mod's compatibility with other trees can be extended by adding leaf blocks to a tag, which the wiki describes. Leaves of a different type do not count toward deciding whether a block decays.

The project is published for Fabric and Quilt, across 14 release versions 1.20.4 – 26.3, including snapshot builds. It is released under CC0 1.0 Universal and is open source, with public source code, an issue tracker and a wiki.

Key features

  1. Faster leaf decay

Leaves that are no longer attached to a log break down quickly instead of lingering for a long time.

  2. Diagonal neighbor check

Decay is decided from diagonal as well as adjacent leaves, so fewer stray leaves stay suspended.

  3. Azalea leaf support

Both leaf types from azalea trees are covered by the decay check.
