Polymorph

by TheIllusiveC4

Recipes that share the same ingredients can be resolved in the crafting grid and furnaces by choosing the output from a list, which Polymorph provides as a Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt mod.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.15.2 – 1.21.1

What it does

When a set of ingredients matches several recipes, a button appears above the output slot of the crafting screen. Pressing it shows every possible result, and picking one sets the output to match. Polymorph keeps that choice while the ingredients stay the same, so repeated crafts reuse it.

Furnace-type blocks follow the same pattern for smelting, blasting, smoking and smithing inputs. The chosen result is stored on the block and survives unloading and reloading the world. Polymorph is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later. Its required dependencies are Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) and Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL), and Cardinal Components API is bundled inside the mod. Client and server both need it, and the mod is published for 1.15.2 – 1.21.1 across 16 release versions.

Key features

  1. Crafting output selection

A button above the crafting output lists every recipe that shares the current ingredients and sets the output to the picked one.

  2. Remembered crafting choice

The selected result is kept as long as the ingredients do not change, so repeated crafts use the same output.

  3. Furnace output selection

Smelting, blasting and smoking blocks show the same list, with the active result highlighted in green.

  4. Saved furnace results

A furnace-type block stores its chosen output in the block itself, so the choice persists across world loading and unloading.

  5. Conflict scanning command

The command /polymorph conflicts checks crafting, smelting, blasting, smoking and smithing recipes and writes conflicting pairs to the logs folder.

Questions

Does Polymorph need Quilted Fabric API?

Yes. Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) and Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL) are listed as required dependencies, so both must be installed with the mod.

Do servers need Polymorph installed?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Which loaders have files for Polymorph?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt all have files. The latest NeoForge file is 1.2.0+1.21.1 for 1.21.1, and the latest Quilt file is 0.49.8+1.20.1 for 1.20.1.

Are the saved furnace results kept after restarting?

Yes. The selection for smelting-type blocks is saved to the block and persists across world loading and unloading.

What the author says

Polymorph is a mod that solves recipe conflicts by letting players choose between all potential outputs shared by the same ingredients. With a sufficiently large amount of mods, recipe conflicts are a common occurrence and the responsibility for resolving these usually falls on the user or modpack developer, using…
