PmWeather Flowing Fluids Compat

by Programmer745

PmWeather Flowing Fluids Compat is a NeoForge compatibility patch that lets Protomanly's Weather rain interact with flowing fluids, such as water, that flood during storms.

NeoForgeServer-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.21.1

What it does

Protomanly's Weather normally treats rain as a weather event that does not spread through flowing fluids. This addon changes that behavior so rain can trigger flooding of flowing fluids. The change works by replacing the vanilla rain checks inside some Flowing Fluids base mixins with checks that read PmWeather's rain state, so the two mods can share the same weather logic.

The patch requires Flowing Fluids and ProtoManly's Weather, which must both be installed alongside it on NeoForge for 1.21.1. It is server-side only, so players who join a server running it do not need to install anything. The default setting leaves the flooding feature disabled, and the config must be changed to enable it, since turning it on alters some base Flowing Fluids behavior.

The author reports one known major issue: when rain stops, a lag spike can occur while the fluid drain runs, lasting a couple of seconds. The drain can also start on any server at any time a rain event is detected. Owners who enable the feature should test it on a copy of their world before using it on a live server.

Key features

  1. Rain-driven flooding

With the option enabled, rain from PmWeather can cause flowing fluids to flood the surrounding area.

  2. Replaced rain checks

Vanilla rain checks in one Flowing Fluids mixin are swapped for PmWeather rain detection.

  3. Configurable behavior

Flooding is turned off by default, and the config controls whether it affects gameplay.

  4. Fluid drain

Once rain is detected, the mod drains flowing fluids over time, which is the source of the reported lag spike.

Questions

Does PmWeather Flowing Fluids Compat need Flowing Fluids?

Yes. Flowing Fluids is a required dependency, and ProtoManly's Weather is required as well. Both must be installed on the server.

Does a player need to install this mod?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

Why is the flooding feature off by default?

The author notes it changes some base Flowing Fluids behavior, so it is disabled by default and must be turned on in the config.

What the author says

It achieves this by modifying some of Flowing Fluids base mixins but the overall functionality should not be affected. This mod modifies 1 of Flowing Fluids mixins mostly just replacing vanilla rain checks with rain checks from PmWeather, however some things are affected by this mods config so some normal base…
