Origins Dumbed Down
Origins Dumbed Down is a simplified Origins overhaul pack that replaces the base origins with new ones, giving different players a distinct character without reshaping how the game is played.
What it does
Origins Dumbed Down swaps the standard origin set for a smaller group of passive abilities. The stated goal is to add personality and variety to each character while avoiding major gameplay-altering limits, such as being unable to breathe on land, or overpowered abilities that make progression pointless, like flying. Changes are meant to make the game slightly different rather than overbearing.
The pack is described by its author as a small, basic Origins add-on that was made mostly by one person and published because no similar option was available. Its origins cover climbing speed, fall damage, hunger, fire and lava resistance, damage dealt and taken, knockback, breathing underwater, swimming and reach. Origins Dumbed Down requires the Origins mod on Fabric or Forge to run, and it is published as a data pack as well.
Origins Dumbed Down is server required and client optional, so the server must run it while players may leave it out. Files target 1.19 – 1.20.2 across eight release versions, with 1.0.0 for 1.20.2 as the latest file on both Fabric and Forge, on the beta channel. The pack is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Passive origin set
Each origin changes a small number of traits, such as climbing, reach or hunger, rather than adding large new mechanics.
Lucky and agile characters
Some origins improve luck and climbing, letting a character ascend and descend quicker on short surfaces.
Water and lava movement
Other origins affect swimming, with faster mining underwater, bubbles left behind while swimming and smoother movement through lava.
Size-based traits
Tiny and enormous origins change hunger, damage dealt and taken, and how far a character is knocked back.
Fall and fire changes
Certain origins alter fall damage, fire resistance and healing speed, adjusting the cost of risky movement.
