No Sprinting

by clo4

No Sprinting turns off the sprint key on survival and adventure servers, so travel across the map takes longer and distance matters again.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.2 – 1.21.8

What it does

The mod disables sprinting for players in survival and adventure mode. Sprinting arrived with hunger, and the author keeps the hunger system but removes the speed boost that changes how most players move across the world. When a player tries to sprint or sprint-jump, the data pack blocks the action and a notice appears above the hotbar.

The mod is a data pack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.2 – 1.21.8 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything. The license is the MIT License, and the source code and issue tracker are public. Version 1.0.0 is the latest file for 1.21.8.

Key features

  1. Sprint disabled in survival

Players in survival and adventure mode cannot start a sprint, so every trip is walked at normal speed.

  2. Sprint-jumping blocked

Sprint-jumping is turned off as well, which removes the longer leaps that sprinting allows.

  3. On-screen notice

A notice above the hotbar tells the player that sprinting is disabled when they try to use it.

Use cases

Long-distance survival

Servers that want travel to feel costly can keep the hunger system and remove the speed boost, so distance has more weight.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run survival or adventure worlds and want players to plan routes and positioning instead of covering ground quickly.

Don't Jump! is a server-side only mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, released under the Apache License 2.0 and built for 1.20.1 – 1.21.8. NoElytraForYou is server required and client optional, under the MIT License, with files for 1.21 – 1.21.4. SprintPlus is client-side only for Fabric, so it changes nothing on a server.

Questions

Does No Sprinting have to be installed on the client?

No. Players can join a server that runs it without installing anything, and installing it on the client adds nothing, so either side can skip it.

Which loaders does No Sprinting support?

It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with the same 1.0.0 build for 1.21.8 on each.

Is there a way to disable sprinting without a mod?

Yes. The data pack is the way this mod disables it, and it works on survival and adventure servers with no extra mod loader.

What the author says

Sprinting was added to Minecraft in Beta 1.8, along with hunger. While I don't like the hunger system, I don't think there's anything fundamentally wrong with it. Sprinting, however, alters the way you play the game in a huge way. When you move 30% faster with very little penalty, or for a slightly larger penalty can…
