Nine Sols Parry

by Sombrius

Nine Sols Parry brings the parry system from the Nine Sols action game into Minecraft, with precise and imprecise parries, an unbounded counter and internal damage.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1

What it does

Timing decides the outcome of a parry. A precise parry, made in time, pushes the foe back and deals internal damage, while an imprecise parry made too early or late deals internal damage to the player instead. Internal damage builds up over repeated imprecise parries, and it heals slowly over time or faster with a medicine pipe. Holding the parry button performs an unbounded counter, which has to be released right before the attack lands, and projectiles can be thrown back at their shooter by parrying them with a counter.

Perfect parries produce Qi, which powers talismans. A talisman deals internal damage to the enemy it is attached to, and holding the use button makes it explode, converting internal damage into actual damage. Three regular talisman types can be crafted: Transmute Unto Life heals the player when it kills an entity, Transmute Unto Wealth drops gold, iron and emeralds along with extra experience, and Transmute Unto Qi produces one Qi charge per kill.

The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It requires playerAnimator, and the code is released under the MIT License as open source. Files target Forge 1.20.1 only, with 1.4.1 as the latest, dated 2026-06-05.

Key features

  1. Precise and imprecise parries

A parry made in time counts as precise, while one made early or late counts as imprecise and costs the player internal damage.

  2. Unbounded counter

Holding the parry button starts an unbounded counter that must be released just before the enemy attacks to land.

  3. Talisman explosions

Talismans attached to enemies deal internal damage, and holding the use button detonates them for direct damage.

  4. Three talisman types

Transmute Unto Life, Wealth and Qi can be crafted, each with a different reward when an attached entity is killed.

Questions

Does Nine Sols Parry need playerAnimator?

Yes. The playerAnimator mod is a required dependency and must be installed alongside Nine Sols Parry on Forge 1.20.1.

Do both the server and the players need the mod?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Which Minecraft versions does Nine Sols Parry support?

Files exist only for 1.20.1 on Forge, with 1.4.1 as the latest file, so other game versions are not covered.

You need to time your parries or else you will perform an imprecise parry, which will deal internal damage. Internal damage builds up the more you do imprecise parries. If you have…
